Goatriders of the Apocalypse

Can anyone 'splain to me why...

...we are going after Matt Capps, offering him a 2 year deal, to be our "right handed setup guy", when a) Angel Guzman was a good set-up guy last year, and b) you could get my guy Kiko for half the money, without any promises on what innings he would pitch?

Once again, Capps was even more shit-tacular than Kevin Gregg last year, and although he doesn't seem to have any outward physical problems (unlike Gregg, who threw the ball like a shotput), I'm simply at a loss why we and several other teams are lusting after this guy when there are other relief pitchers out there with much better stats and much more acceptable salary demands?

Capps wants to close...he is seriously considering taking less money to pitch for the Godforsaken Nationals because they will let him close.  Knowing that, doesn't that just cause a problem for us, because he will be breathing down Carlos Marmol's neck, either figuratively (in the media) or literally (in the clubhouse)?

I just think Capps is a bad idea.  Yes, we need one more bullpen arm, and it doesn't have to be someone who wants to dictate exactly which innings or which situation they will be willing to perform in.  We need somebody who will take the damn ball no matter when, and throw strikes.

Because Lou Piniella will someday kill a man, mark my words, who doesn't throw strikes.  He tried it some time ago with Rob Dibble.  I think that's how we ended up with the "Silva Lining".  He throws strikes.  Granted, a lot of them end up in the bleachers.

Like I said, someone explain the whole Capps thing to me.  I don't get why THAT guy is so popular?

Now, based on the fact that every player Hendry acquired prior to the 2009 season is now gone, we're left with the big steaming pile of Silva, and he's allegedly chasing Capps (although he may not be chasing Capps as hard as he is chasing them), I'm not ready to fire Hendry.  Not yet.

Even if he now turns around and brings in Marlon Byrd, who is for all accounts an Arlington Creation and is not a leadoff man due to his .330 OBP, I won't want to fire him.  I think if he is bound and determined to buy a center fielder, I might roll dice on Coco Crisp and his rebuilt shoulders, and not just because I love his name.

Here is where I draw my line - if he brings in Scotty Freakin' Pods to play center field?  He may be the only man in the league WORSE than Fukudome at that position.  Yeah, he can hit a little.  But his baseball IQ is near zero and last year at this time he was out of the game, and Kenny Williams plucked him out of the scrapheap out of desperation.  Now that the Sux can catch their breath?  They'd rather have Juan Pierre?  That tells you all you need to know about Pods.

If Posednik is signed to the Cubs, then go ahead,  Fire Hendry.

Sorry

Can't explain it. Couldn't splain the MB signing either.

I agree about Capps and am

I agree about Capps and am glad the decision was taken away from Hendry and capps decided to reign in hell (Washington) rather than serve in heaven (Chicago) because it wouldn't have surprised me if Hendry pulled the trigger on YET ANOTHER
foolish move. What I am wondering is after all the crap Hendry has masqueraded as doing his job such as Sorryohno and his horrible plate discipline along with his bad defense in left field for EIGHT YEARS, Fukodome's lack of offense and corkscrew batting style for another two years, trading DeRosa and replacing him with the Miles (MILES!), signing Bradley, Heillman, Gregg, trading Marquis for Vizcaino then releasing Vizcaino, letting Henry Blanco go and replacing him with Mordecai "3 finger" Hill and now signing Byrd for THREE YEARS (????)....what would it take for you to be ready to fire Hendry? (OTHER than signing Pods)
