Goatriders of the Apocalypse

The Question Game (Game Recap: Cubs 2, Marlins 4)

Cubs lose again. Lame!

Lilly was decent (three earned runs allowed in seven innings), the offense was not (two runs scored, both knocked in by The Team Carrier (see below)), and Starlin Castro had a really rough night in the field (three errors -- egads).

Let me ask you something(s):

  • Do you understand that ALFONSO SORIANO has been CARRYING this team? 3-for-4, two RBIs, a runner gunned down at home -- he's only hitting .340 with seven home runs now.
  • Why did Xavier Nady hit fourth tonight? Seriously, why?
  • Why did Derrek Lee hit third tonight? I guess he's hit before, but the guy is not having a good year. And yes, it's likely he'll turn it around, but maybe we could hit him lower until then?
  • Do you feel like booing Starlin Castro? I know I don't. Yes, it was a rough night for the kid, but let's give the kid a chance to settle down.
  • Did any of Lou's actions tonight change your opinion about his ability to manage? Do you feel Lilly was managed appropriately (yes, hindsight is 20/20!)? Did you like his line-up? Does he take any blame for the double steal that was completed against his team?

The Monty Python Edition (In honor of Eddie)

1) “Don't stand there gawping! Like you've never seen the hand o' God before!”

Yes, Rudy has created a whole new, almost unrecognizable (at the plate at least), Soriano – it is good. Too bad he seemingly created the new Ramirez and Lee as well though…

2) “There is not one of us who would not gladly suffer death to rid this country of the Romans once and for all… Oh, yeah, yeah, there's one. But otherwise, we're solid”

Seriously, don’t F*ing ask me.

3) “It's symbolic of his struggle against reality”

Really, like the last, how do you expect this answered?

4) “Oh, what a giveaway! Did you hear that? Did you hear that, eh? That's what I'm on about! Did you see him repressing me? You saw him, Didn't you?”

But honestly, no. I read all the reports; I knew there were questions making the rounds. Kept expectations kind of low, figuring the people claiming he likely isn’t long for short are probably saying so for a reason. Also imagine the expectations people have put on such a young kid with such little experience can compound things after a first gaff. Hopefully he’ll be fine, and if not its not like we have a real second baseman anyway so…

5) “She has been setting a light to our beacon, which, I've just remembered, is Grail shaped. It's not the first time we've had this problem”

I'll leave it at that.

Well done. I'd say we agree.

Well done. I'd say we agree.

God damn it

The bastards booed Castro in his home opener?!?! WHAT THE F*CK IS THEIR PROBLEM?!?!?!?!

POOnella

Castro deserves a break it was his debut at Wrigley and if you think you wouldnt have butterflies your completely full of shit! as for Soriano he is carrying the team and if our manager had any balls he would move this lineup around and help Soriano. I have lost faith in him, Louser has not managed he has tip toed around players problems instead of facing them and managing the team. Aramis has killed us and yet has been left in the middle of the line up while sporting a pitchers batting average and showing no signs of coming out of the slump. He uses Grablow! WTF? Grablow wouldnt pitch for my kids coach pitch team. Nady in the four spot? what has Lou smoked? is he hittin the rock like the sox fans? Another example Sunday Lou walks out to Dempster and lets Demp talk him off the mound, Marshal was ready and would have got Votto out! but no Lackluster Lou blew it again. Ricketts family please start working on a new coach now, I hate to say it but it is time to pull a pittsburgh move(yes i f*ckin said that) and clean house, fire sale! REBUILD REBUILD REBUILD we have suffered long enough Lou has had one of the most talented lineups in baseball for the past few years and we have nothing to show for he cant get the job done. It is time for MASSIVE CHANGES!

Sorry Rugby

But the Cubs aren't built like the Pirates. They can't just clean house like the Pirates did. It is about patience. I wrote about this a day or two ago but the Cubs are going to be hopelessly mediocre for the next two years and then they should start taking off like a rocket. Everything that happens in the next two years needs to lead the era of the Cub which should take place from 2012-2017 at the very least. There are reasons for optimism though it is hard to see right now.

But remember, Sayers --

But remember, Sayers -- they're called "prospects" for a reason. As good as Colvin, Cashner, Castro, Vitters, Jackson, Lee, and others have looked, most of them still have a long way to go.

Cub fans

I am convinced loyal Cub fans do not watch games at Wrigley anymore. The opt to stay home. Probably because of the high ticket prices now and if your like me, you don't want to listen to all the bandwagon/trendy fans that flood the park now. Cub fans used to be considered some of the smartest fans in baseball yet we boo a rookie in his first home game?? C'mon, that's just plain horse crap! This kid is only 20. He's gonna take some time. I partly blame the media for touting this kid as the second coming of Ernie Banks. Why do we do that to these guys? With the pressure?? Just let them go out and play. Support them and encourage them like you would your kids. Do you boo your kid when he forgets to pick up his clothes, gets a bad grade or drops a fly in little league. People are crazy these days.
My main problem with Lou is he is pulling a Dusty Baker on us right now. Sending out the same guys day after day in the same spot based on previous year production and not what they are doing today. It drives me nuts. Play the guys that are hitting and sit the ones that are not, it's not rocket science.
