Open Forum: Call-ups and Line-ups

Update: The moves have been announced.

Fuld and Hart have been sent to AAA, and Patton is on the DL with a groin strain.

As for the line-up, here's tonight's:

Fukudome, CF
Theriot, SS
Lee, 1B
Bradley, RF
Ramirez, 3B
Soriano, LF
Soto, C
Fontenot, 2B
Wells, P

From earlier:

At some point today, the Cubs will announce their recall of Aramis Ramirez, Reed Johnson, and Angel Guzman to the major league club's active roster. They'll also announce the corresponding roster moves they've made to make room for these three bona fide major league players.

In my opinion, roster and line-up speculation is what makes sports blogging fun. Not only do you get to play GM, but you also get nearly instant feedback from other passionate fans with interesting ideas of their own.

With that, let's try to get some opinions in the comments on what folks are thinking would be ideal for the club at this point. There are two questions to answer:

1) Who should be sent down?

2) How should Lou line the hitters up now that Aramis is back?

hoff, hart, and the shark get

hoff, hart, and the shark get sent down (leaving us with 11 pitchers)

Looking at how the lineup is right now, my guess on the lineup would be.

Of course once soriano starts hitting again, I would expect that lou will do the dumb thing and put him back in the 1 hole.

Fuld will get sent back to

Fuld will get sent back to AAA. Reed Johnson's return makes him expendable. Hart is an easy choice (although returning David Patton would be the better decision). Here's a dark horse for the third demotion - Mike Fontenot. He still has options left, and Lou loves him some Andres Blanco.

DFA Patton, and send Shark

DFA Patton, and send Shark down. DL Soriano with anxiety.

1. Fukudome/ Johnson
2. Bradley
3. Lee
4. Ramirez
5. Fox
6. Soto
7. Theriot/ Blanco
8. Font/ Blanco

Are you worried about

Are you worried about bouncing our top prospect back and forth between the MLB 'pen and AAA rotation? I think Shark is a major leaguer indefinitely. Having said that, Hart could probably use some consistency too. Maybe the Patton DFA is the best move at this point.

two paths

What SHOULD happen: DFA Patton, demote Hart, DL Soriano.

What WILL happen: Hart, Shark, Hoff demoted.

Congratulations, sir. You

Congratulations, sir. You nailed it as of 7/8/09.

I know the Cubs just traded

I know the Cubs just traded for Baker, but he seems to be the most useless guy on the bench with Ramirez coming back. What's the point of keeping him?

I don't see them moving Hoff because Lou loves that power lefty off the bench.

They'll also do everything they can to keep 12 pitchers.

What SHOULD happen: DFA Patton, demote Hart, demote Baker

What WILL happen: Demote Hart, Fuld, and Blanco

Baker is out of options so since we just traded for him I don't think he is going anywhere. He can play 2nd and is suppose to rake against lefties. I don't think Blanco is at risk since he is our only backup at short, until Miles comes back. Again Hendry screws himself by locking up roster spots.

Roster Moves

My Guess:

Hart and Hoff get sent down. Soriano goes on the 15 day DL.

Dome continues in the one hole with Fuld optionally
Theriot hits 2
Lee 3
Bradley 4
Ramirez 5 (ease him back in a bit)
Fox 6 in LF or Soto when Fox sits
Soto and Johnson 7 (when Fox sits)

That's my guess
