Goatriders of the Apocalypse

i call bs

i call bull sh*t 1st!!!!!!!!!!! we are sitting around 2nd guessing cubs upper management like we dont have jobs or anything better to do!!! here is my proposed plan for the rest of the off season for trades and free agent signings----- #1 why make up our minds on who would be best for our of and lh bat- lets sign both dunn and bradley making both x dollars and incentive laden for 2 yrs each. 2nd dump marquis and his lousy contract as well as pie and while we are at it also include cedeno. next lets just see who wants to pony up what for derosa. the master plan here is dump some contracts to open up cash and pick up some prospects for our failing farm system- losing those 4 will not kill us. use hoff off the bench, dunn and bradley in rf -using off bench as needed(using to fill in as needed) keep gaith as utility and speed runner, then we need a body that can be used only on inf needs for maybe a pickup of 1-3 mil a yr to spot riot and font- or even better pickup in one of these trades a better ss and use riot as the sub for 2b and ss. we would still have extra bodies and not alot of extra cash being used and get rid of some of this dead wood off the books- put us into a win now mode and give us the extra bats we are so craving!!!!  so now we would have the pitching, the bench and the lineup with extra lh bats in it that lou so craves and the bullpen will hold its own (or pickup extra closer /back end pitcher ie huston street) and close out the games without going insanely bonkers fu**in up games. Problems solved.       World Series  2009.

2 things

1. Please refrain from swearing if you could, I went in and edited that a bit

2. Paragraphs. They are you friend and make you post much easier to read. I'm just saying.

1. There's absolutely no way

1. There's absolutely no way that the Cubs can sign both Dunn and Bradley. There's just not enough Money. More importantly though, Dunn's a glorified DH, not that different from Manny Ramirez or even Soriano. Bradley could very well be a shockingly good fielder, but where would you put Dunn? Last I checked, the NL isn't close to adopting the DH rule, and with Bradley in RF, that leave no other position that Dunn is even remotely able to play open.

2. I highly doubt the Cubs could trade Marquis to anyone with the size of his contract. The Rockies or Mets may bite, but the Cubs will have to eat a sizable portion of the money, and they won't get many prospects in return.

3. I'm all for trading Pie for a prospect, or perhaps even for Garret Olson and keeping Olson to strengthen the bullpen. However, Cedeno is quite a bit harder. Maybe if you package him with Marquis, you get something decent in return.

4. Fontenot is hardly a starting 2B no matter what team he's on. While a platoon of Theriot and Fontenot would likely work, The Cubs cannot afford Dunn, Bradley AND an upgrade over Theriot. I sincerely doubt they could afford even two of the three.

So I really don't like your plan, mostly because the concept of money is seemingly going straight over your head, and that you want to platoon two All Star Caliber Hitters

1. dont need a dh rule for

1. dont need a dh rule for this to work- bradley can play all 3 of positions and to boot is a S hitter- so can spell soriano, help in c if needed and also rf. dunn is only fair in rf and as ph and platoon as needed( heck teach him 1b while we are at it).
2. dont have to have a huge return or worry about eating a huge amount of contract so we blow 3 mil to get rid of him and save almost 7. derosa is the wild card here at 5 mil- 08 was his career yr so move now while value is high. Savings of $12 mil.(we are already going to sign bradley or dunn any ways) can spend on 2nd option.
3. cedeno with marquis = greater return and pie is gone in a seperate deal.
4. upgrade doesnt have to cost a fortune could be part of a trade return
Dont like the plan because my concept of money is over my head ? you just dumped 12 mil+ and can get back prospects and players plus signing of the 2 is not going to be that if they do INCENTIVE laden contracts as expected for both.

dont need a dh rule for

Dunn has no defense and while he hits a ton, neither does Bradley. With both, we would have the worst OF defense in MLB. Fontenot can't be counted on to play daily. I don't mind getting rid of Cedeno because he's had enough chances, but I'm not ready to give up on Pie yet until he gets as much of a chance as they gave Corey Patterson.

Dunn alone will likely make

Dunn alone will likely make at least 15M in 2009, and even after trading Marquis and DeRosa, I doubt there would be much more room in payroll than around 17-18M

But out of curiosity sake, what's your plan for a depth chart?
