Loss

The Cubs are starting to look like an average team rather than a world breaker.  They have now lost 7 out of their last 9, dropping them to second in the division behind the surprising Cardinals. But as I said to my gloating boss, luckily a baseball season consists of 162 games, not 9.

The positives of this series include the tentative offensive explosion of Alfonso Soriano, who still should not be batting leadoff.  Unfortunately, Lou seems determined to leave him there, but I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that he is bamboozling us and will move Soriano to the #5 spot sometime before the end of May.

Jason Marquis continues to suck.  'Nuff said.

And one final note to the Cubs: drawing six walks in a game is not an advantage if you let your opponents take just as many.  Keep that one in mind.

Series Recap: While St. Louis is currently a hot team, I remain unconvinced that they are a good one.  The Cubs continue to look like crap, but I am convinced that they are better than their recent record of 2-7.  However, this is a month in which the Cubs need to win a lot more often than they lose.  It's time to crank it up and turn it around ... get 'er done, guys!  Get 'er done!

Current Record: 18-13
Standing in the central: 2nd place, 1.5 games behind St. Louis
Best possible record: 149-13
On pace for: 94-68
Record necessary for 120 wins: 102-29

Soriano & Roberts Comment by Fox Broadcasters

I agree with your analysis about Soriano. Id stick him behind Ramirez, cause that flailer (Ramirez) needs to see better pitches to be consistent...he swings at anything dropping low and out of the zone...I like him, but a fact is a fact...lots of flailin.' But, anyway, I caught a Fox broadcaster saying that the Roberts thing is still a potentiality, but that as long as the Orioles were in the hunt it wasn't going to happen. Is this right? Should we be eyeballing the Orioles scores hoping for a collapse so that we can grab up Roberts, or is this deal completey impossible at this point?
