I'm watching the Cubs beat the pants off the Red Birds. It's 9-3 in the eighth, and I'm going to prematurely raise the win-flag.

Cubs Win! Cubs Win! Holy Cow!

Anyhow, after watching part of the game last night, and most of it today, I already know what we'll hear about tomorrow night (on ESPN). One of those wily Cardinals is apparently smart. He's a semester away from graduating with a degree in aerospace engineering! Simply amazing. He's even been to Addis Ababa in Ethiopia! (OK, actual props there.)

Anyhow, I know that they're really just reading the press notes, but it never ceases to amaze me that if a guy has any sort of academic experience, it's a total brown nose fest in the booth. OMG! Doug Glanville went to Penn! (I'm looking at you Ronny.) It's as if the broadcasters can't believe athletic ability and a brain could possibly go hand in hand. Oil and water those athletics and education.

I think the next time a well educated fan attends a game, I'll send a press release to the booth. I can just hear it now.

Len: Aw, and we see that James McSmarty is at the game today.
Bob: McSmarty, his name is sure appropriate. He graduated from Purdue University with a degree in agribusiness.
Len: That's pretty impressive, Bob. Not a lot of guys take the time to learn about hybrid corns or the most profitable planting strategies - Zambrano get's a fastball over the outside corner, the count's 1-2.
Bob: I was talking to McSmarty the other day and he's really quite an interesting character. He was telling me that the alfalfa crop's going to be pretty good this year.
Len: Some guys can do it all. Plant the crops, learn about 'em, and watch the game. Why, he's even keeping score. A renaissance man if there ever was one.

If he was really so smart

...he would have gone to IU.

Zing!
