Game Recap: Astros 4, Cubs 3
Memo to the Cubs: you have to win these one-run games.
I kind of hate blogging about games that I don't get to see, but hey, somebody's got to do it! It started out as you might imagine ... Rich Hill had moments of Mitchdom, specifically surrounding the events of the 2nd inning where he gave up a double, a walk, and hit a batter before ending the inning safely. But, if you're a Cubs fan watching the game, you have to be thinking "crud, this isn't going to end well."
It didn't end well. Two innings later, Hill gave up another walk after striking out the first two batters he faced and, contrary to the Dusty Baker Philosophy of Baseball, having that guy on base came back to punish the Cubs as J.R. Towles smacked a homer. The Cubs managed to threaten in the 7th as they tied up the game on a Geo Soto single, but Houston was all like, nuh uh, and the Cubs were all like, oh snap, because it may have been a mistake of Lou Piniella's to let Jon Lieber go two innings. He got ripped for 2 more runs, and that was all the difference, although the main blame is another defensive miscue, this time by Mark DeRosa. DeRosa's boot was the preamble to the Tejada triple that gave Houston the lead.
Guh. But the defense will ge better. Right?
Sure, the Cubs threatened in the 9th - Mark DeRosa hit a solo shot that brought it within one, but Soto and Pie couldn't capitalize on the seized momentum and they quietly ended the game with outs.
All things told, Miggy Tejada went 2 for 4. It's safe to say that he busted out his injectin' stick:

You forgot the part
where the Astros were like oh no he didn't, and the Cubs were like, oh yes I did, and they were like bring it, and we were like it is so on . . .
Lieber
Does anybody remember the following two things about when Lieber won 20 games for us?
1) That was awesome.
1+1) He SUCKED in the first inning.
Now I know the mistake mentioned above was bringing him back for a second inning, but it just occurred to me that a guy who takes longer than a yugo to start firing on all cylinders might not be the best choice for the 'pen.
