Goatriders of the Apocalypse

Slow news is no news (Friday photoshop)

A bit of a slow day here in blogger land, so I thought I'd post a photoshop for y'all.

Today, an oldie-but-a-goodie.

Brokearm Mountain

Tomorrow, it'll be photoshop heaven through the month.  There will be new content every single day.

Classic...

Too bad that Kid K is the Heath Ledger image Sad

Yeah, and a Texan by birth.

Yeah, and a Texan by birth.

Well shucks

Poor Kerry, he's a heart and soul Cub and I'm sure he'd resent the implication if he saw this.

I don't mind Prior in that picture, sure you can't substitute Pedro Martinez, Wade Miller or Ben Sheets for Woody?

If you come to a fork in the road, take it - Yogi Berra

I'd sooner you put a hot

I'd sooner you put a hot coal to my feet.

This particular image got a lot of play when I first came up with it. It wasn't made out of hatred for any player, but out of frustration because they'd both come into Spring Training that season only for it to be announced, yet again, that they would be delayed for, basically, mysterious reasons.

They both resemble the actors involved, they were a tandem at the time, it fit.

Maybe so

But the connotations are obvious.

I understand you don't exactly agree with my respect for animals, but why insinuate that Kerry Wood is homosexual? Not that I have anything against gays mind you. But some guys don't like that - if Kerry Wood reads blogs he's never going to talk to this one.

If you come to a fork in the road, take it - Yogi Berra

That's your take. Three

That's your take.

Three things:

1. Kerry Wood has very likely seen that photoshop. We've never heard peep from him about it.

2. Please do not suggest that I do not have a respect for animals.

3. Unfortunately*, a lot of our photoshops in the past have made fun of Cubs players. That is, primarily, because we are absolutely not going to back them up 100% if and when the season is in the tank. Part of the reason we - and other blogs - have readers and are respected is because we're honest about our frustrations. They used to say that Jack Brickhouse had this great skill of convincing his young TV viewers that, on any day, the Cubs could - nay, SHOULD win every game they play, even against a tough opponent like the Big Red Machine. Believe me, we do not feel that that is the right approach. If people want to be lied to, if they want to swill the kool-aid, there are a few blogs out there that they can visit. If people want bloggers who are posting honestly, who are expressing their frustration in creative ways, then they can visit this website.

I also did a photoshop of Carlos Zambrano mimicking the famous Che Guevera poster. Carlos has seen it on several occasions, and he loves us. I suppose we run the risk of offending him too, since he is Venezuelan and probably has a specific distaste for Communists because of the actions of his president. Additionally, he has in his possession a photoshop depicting him as a gun-toting, cocaine snorting drug lord. Maybe I shouldn't have made that, since it could be insinuated that I a making a negative connotation that Carlos is a criminal, but the truth is, he loved it so much he took it home to Venezuela with him. He has a good sense of humor, and he realizes that we're not calling him Communist or a drug dealer.

Ultimately, Mark, I am a big believer in acting honestly. If I am honestly frustrated, I will say so. Honestly, I'm a little frustrated right now because I'm defending something I feel no need to defend, as it is an image which is two years old and was well-regarded across the board, not just on the internet but on Chicago sports talk radio. But if you're going to get upset every time we pick on a Cub, let me know, so I can at least warn you about it in advance. Me, I love the Cubs and hope they play well this year, but I will be among the first to voice my frustration if they fail to get the job done.

*I said "Unfortunately, a lot of our photoshops in the past have made fun of Cubs players" not because I feel bad for making fun of them, but because the Cubs have unfortunately been a depressingly bad baseball team for two out of the past three years. This year, I'm going to make a conscious attempt to make fun of the OTHER teams in the division a little more, but if the Cubs are in the basement somehow, believe you me, there will be photoshops about it.

Insinuate?

IMO in NO way was it ever insinuated that Wood or Prior were gay. I bet the vast majority of readers never even thought of that. The way I saw it was a slam on Dusty and how he and the medical staff utilized and took care of their pitchers and perhaps misinformed the fans on their physical conditions.

It's just ironic that the pic works from that movie poster and it's namesake. If this would have fit the movie poster for Midnight Cowboy or Platoon or even Dumb and Dumber, then what would you think was insinuated?

Dude - lighten up.

well

Perhaps if Kurt had changed the line about their "love" then it would have been less objectionable.

Meh

I think that it's pretty clear that "love" is in fact a play on their arm injuries - hence the doctor reference.

Again, I did a photoshop of Carlos Zambrano as a gun-wielding, coke-snorting drug lord. I guess he - and everybody else - should be tremendously offended at the insinuation.

Clear as mud apparently

If it is so clear, then why is Mark offended by the photoshop? Just because it's clear to you as the creator of the image does that mean that everyone else sees it the same way.

As far as Carlos goes, whatever. He may have never seen the movie Scarface. All he may see is a macho hombre shooting a machine gun. Going back to earlier referenced photoshop, he may not be aware that Che has been reported to have been gay. Or that Che tortured and executed hundreds of people in the aftermath of Fidel's revolution in Cuba. Maybe Che is still considered a hero in Venezuela. Or maybe Carlos just doesn't take any of this kind of stuff seriously. Good for him if that's the case.

I agree. Good for Carlos -

I agree. Good for Carlos - and everybody else - who doesn't take it too seriously.

I anxiously await the hate mail from Jason Marquis, as I depicted him on the verge of being executed by his manager in a guillotine. Perhaps Rich Hill will have an attorney - or maybe his staunchest fans - send us threatening EMails because I will depict him in a way which some might interpret as a sodomizer of boys (or, you could just interpret it correctly and identify him as a scoutmaster, it's your call).

There's a certain term for this, and I will discuss it more in the near future. But what it boils down to is taking things too seriously.

This is a fun website, and sometimes the fun is at the expense of even our favorite players. That won't change. Ever.

Fine and dandy

The person that seemed to be so offended by the BrokeArm Photoshop is one of the staffers . All I meant to suggest was that if the "love" part of the image would have been changed, then perhaps Mark wouldn't have thought that you were implying/inferring that Kerry was a homosexual. I'm sure that most major league baseball players couldn't care less about what anybody on a blog writes or photoshops.

It doesn't matter if the

It doesn't matter if the offended person was a staffer or Kerry Wood himself, I would defend it the same way, and I would emphasize that nothing will change. We have a line that we do not cross. In this case, humorous photoshops which pick on Cub players past and present do not cross that line. If anybody is offended, I apologize, but I'll do it again, and often.

"If it is so clear, then why

"If it is so clear, then why is Mark offended by the photoshop?"

Because sooner or later, somebody will be offended regardless? That's the reality of the situation.
