Goatriders of the Apocalypse

All the right words

They asked me to stay. That's the bottom line. Chicago, for me, is home. I'll be living there full time very shortly. This team, this organization, has given me everything I have. They've given me every chance in the world that a lot of teams wouldn't have given guys like me after the injuries I've had.

I did go on the free-agent market a little bit just to find some interest. There was interest out there. Chicago is family to me. This organization is family. They gave me the big contract a few years ago. I wasn't able to pitch the last two years of that.

Obviously, there are obligations from me to give something back. I wouldn't feel right leaving and not giving something back to this team, this city and the organization.

Credit goes to Andy Dolan on the Desipio boards for pointing out the Daily Herald article.

Kerry Wood remains a class act and a legendary Cub - even though he's not Hall of Fame bound.   He is everything that Mark Prior is not - a class act, a loyal individual, somebody who's willing to give to an organization after having taken so much.

Mark Prior.  I wish him the best.  I hope that he regains his lost velocity.  I hope that the fragile tissue around his shoulder strengthens.  I hope he wins 20 games for the Padres, propelling them to a playoff match-up against the Cubs, where he promptly collapses like the house of crap that he is (did I just mix metaphors?  Oh well) blowing another playoff series for his team.

Bitter?  Me?

Well ... maybe.

I agree...

Class guy. Never a negative comment out of him. Dare I say 'old school'.

Oh, "collapse like a house of crap"? Houses of sticks, wood, stone and crap? Is Prior the 4th of the Three Little Piggies? Kinda like the 5th Beatle?

Ha....nice

(I might need more coffee)

Good riddance to Prior

Woody is one of my favorite all-time Cubs - I still have his 20 strikeout game on tape and watch it from time to time.

Prior is a different story. When it came time to choose a college, Mark Prior chose his father's (and my) alma mater - Vanderbilt. He was a quitter there and transferred to USC. Then he got drafted by my Cubbies, who always paid him more than they had to and continued to pay him after his rash of injuries started.

In fact the Cubs even offered to pay him $2 million this year if only he'd give them an option year. What did Prior do? He signed for half that amount on a one year deal and a "get out of Chicago" ticket. I won't miss his sour-puss attitude with the press and his "I'm just an employee" attitude with the Cubs. Good riddance to bad rubbish, I hope he and that 88 mph fastball of his enjoy a short stay in the Major Leagues - future fans will say "Mark who?"
