Aramis the cockfighter - Round 2
Now I'm sure that a lot of Cubs fans would like this topic to go away. Were it not for Aramis Ramirez running his mouth before his brain there would be no topic. He'd just be a Dominican sicko with a passion for watching animals cut each other to death; perhaps he gets his "jollies" watching that stuff, who knows.
But Ramirez apparently doesn't have the intestinal fortitude to even discuss the issue in the United States. When asked by mlb.com about his passion for cockfighting Ramirez replied: "I said I'm not going to talk about that...like I said - I just have to say this - it's a different culture in the Dominican, and that's it."
And guess what, Roger Clemens doesn't want to talk about steroids either.
It's obvious that Ramirez doesn't have the intestinal fortitude to even defend his actions. He wants to stonewall the American public and make things go away. But they won't go away. Every time he comes up to bat on the Game of the Week it will come up. Many times this year he'll face pitchers that don't like his actions and he'll get drilled in the ribs.
Let's face it, this guy might hit and play third base well but he's a degenerate and a Bubba. At least that's my spin - I'm an American and I don't believe in being cruel to animals or a lot of other gruesome things that happen in Third World countries. I'm not going to change my mind either.

Mark, In this, your second
Mark,
In this, your second post on the subject, you demonstrate enduring passion regarding this topic.
Maybe my view of the current state of animal rights activism in the US is skewed, but it seems to me that you are someone with more interest in this subject than the average American. Would you describe yourself that way too?
I'm not trying to be critical of your viewpoint; it just makes me wonder what your relationship to the subject is, since your reaction strikes me as more vigorous than I would expect from most people.
Go cubs.
Mark - it was a great debate
Mark - it was a great debate and a lot of people contributed, but I think everybody has gotten their opinions across.
Let's let this one go.
Dissonance, much?
I know that this won’t make any difference whatsoever. I have been a faithful goatriders reader for the last two and a half years or so. I hardly ever left a comment, so I might as well have not existed, but I was there.
Imagined, though it was, the pain felt real when I deleted goatriders from my RSS feeds. I had no choice. Irreverent photo-montages, snarky commentary and the odd insightful analysis was what I expected. Pretty much everything else was what I was willing to live with. I could have taken any political direction. Left, right, aubergine or thunderdome. I’m European, what would I care? It’s just this recent extreme nationalism I cannot abide.
It’s fu**ing CHICKEN. Chicken is at best a step up from maize. You have to be really really confident that every single facet of your life is completely perfect before you can take on this crusade. I am a vegetarian and have been for more than twelve years. I don’t have a problem with eating the unfertilised young of chicken for breakfast. I don’t have a problem with breaking chicken necks. Should I have a problem because cocks are male? Should I have a problem because your delicate American soul is feeling bad? Your delicate arab-killing American soul?
I don’t know. My guess is: “no.” My guess is that you’re a fu**ing douche this site could have done without. But I’m also pretty sure that it’s going to do a lot better with you as a writer and without me as a reader. Which is exactly what the future‘s going to bring.
Hmm.
Well, sir. I certainly apologize. Clearly you side with a lot of our readers (and writers) on this issue.
In terms of who Mark is as a person ... don't let his stance on this issue distort how you see him. That would be a mistake on the same level of distorting your view of Aramis Ramirez because of HIS beliefs ... and you and I agree that we shouldn't do that.
I think Mark is a fine writer, and I believe he'll fit in excellently at this site. Please don't quit reading this blog because of his stance on this issue. At worst, I would suggest to you the same thing I've suggested to those who object to what Rob writes... if you don't like it, skip it and read the things you DO like.
In terms of content, I can only promise you that you will continue to receive daily updates on this site, often from me, and there will be photoshops galore in the coming months.
Please keep reading the site, and give Mark a chance, too.
I mean, seriously, I couldn't disagree with him on this issue more than I do already, and I'm the one who ultimately brought him on board. If *I* can deal with his viewpoint, surely you can too ... even if it means skipping his posts if you really feel the need to.
Stick with us. Don't make assumptions about our writers because of one viewpoint, and even if you strongly, strongly disagree with something we say, the only lines we have are to refrain from f-bombs and to stay away from personal attacks.
(P.S. I edited the f-bombs because I wanted your post to be on the site... I know we cross the vulgarity line from time to time, but even if we hate something, let's try to keep it clean)
To each his own
If I lost sleep at night or felt offended or disgusted over other peoples' thoughts on serious issues, let alone something as trivial as cockfighting, I would have probably killed myself long ago.
If you abhor cockfighting, that's fine (I'm personally ok with it, after all it is an animal raised to be killed) this is America and you're entitled to your opinion. Same for the other side. However, as long as the beliefs and actions of others cause you no direct harm, get over yourself and do something productive. Nobody in this country has the right to not be offended.
If you don't like what you're reading/watching, find something else that you do like, and this site has plenty of that. But PLEASE, do not subject us to your self-righteous bit**ing.
oops
I thought I replied to Agoat, that wasn't intended for you, Kurt.
No bubbles no troubles,
No bubbles no troubles, Smitty.
