So what? Let PETA deal with it. Just keep swinging Aramis!

So the Cubs should trade him to preserve their family friendliness... and to make me feel better about myself.

so I think it's wrong, but it's not my place to judge him for it.

I would truncate this post and leave off the word "fighting"

Peta is a bunch of sackless

Peta is a bunch of sackless pussies...if aramis wants to fight cocks, let him, theyre chickens. deal with it! whatever you do, wont matter, just give it up.

How about

instead of the consensus -- "it's wrong but it's not my place to judge him for it, since it's legal in the DR" -- what about someone saying "it's wrong and I do judge him for it. Obviously I can't do anything about it, and I'm not saying that he should be punished exactly, but it's still wrong."

Sure, you can take that

Sure, you can take that approach, but be prepared to be judged in return.

You live in a society that promotes the genital mutilation of infants. You live in a society that forces cows and pigs to stand immobile while often being force fed cow and pig parts until they are led to slaughter. You live in a society where people spray animal fat on their bodies in order to improve their natural scent. You live in a society where thousands of chickens are often forced to exist in a very small area, where they often wind up covered in their own feces until they also are led to slaughter.

You live in a very messed up society. You fully participate in it. You encourage that it continues the way it already is. And yet you judge somebody because he lives in a society that appears as grotesque to us as some of our society's actions appear to him.

Go ahead and judge away, but remember that you are living in a large and fragile glass house.

It's Nothing New

People (athletes, etc.) watching animals fight for whatever reason is not new at all. That has always been done. But that shouldn't have anything to do with their chosen occupations. Some people are licensed animal trainers. Does watching cock fights make Aramis Ramirez a bad person? I don't think so. You should judge his performance on the field, not his general character.

Sillyness

Aramis likes cockfighting. I don't necessarily think it's right, but his culture does. They have massive stadiums built for the purpose of this 'sport'. Having not grown up in that environment, I can't really judge the guy. I eat chicken every other day, from chickens that no doubt have a much rougher lifestyle than Aramis's roosters. I eat cow and pig, too. And fish from a polluted ocean. Nothing in this world is perfect, folks. If Aramis had a bunch of people chained in his barn and was making THEM fight, then I would be concerned. This is small beans.
