The Rocket Report
I really don't want to make this a Steroids Blog - altho' I bet we'd get a lot of readers if I did - but I was listening to my favorite radio show yesterday, and Clemens was a topic of discussion for a while. The host of said show called up his personal attourney at one point and had him listen to the Clemens McNamee phone call in order to figure out what the deal was, and said attourney made some very interesting points which actually sheds light on the possibility of Clemens being innocent.
For starters, while the Clemens-McNamee was a little bizarre, the lawyer noted that McNamee was in serious trouble when they questioned him about his relationship with athletes and steroids. McNamee was looking to go to prison due to tax issues, and it is quite possible that they urged him to name some prominent players in order to avoid jail-time.
If any of that is even partly true, then it makes it difficult for the accusations to stick to the Rocket, although his name will remain tarnished regardless.
Incidentally, I wonder if any of these allegations have rubbed off on his kid Koby, who is a minor leaguer for the Astros whom I have affectionately nicknamed "Pocket Rocket," just because it sounds funny. And kinda dirty, but not too much so.

Mixed feelings....
Not sure where I stand on the Clemens issue. McNamee seems more of an informant to save his own ass then an upstanding guy trying to clean up baseball.
One question....before this came out, did anyone suspect steroids with Clemens? I'm talking about Joe Fan, not some swarmy baseball insider.
I ask this because it's not exactly rare that a guy over 40 has just been a great athlete and stayed in phenomenal shape. Anyone recall Nolan Ryan? Wasn't he about 46 when he retired? Carlton Fisk? Tim Raines? We still have Randy Johnson, Maddux, Glavine, Moyer, Lofton, Alou, Biggio and isn't Julio Franco around 78?
Point being, it is feasible that Clemens can be one of those rare commodities. At least I hope so.
