Look at the numbers, people.
The three most hyped Japanese offensive players have been Ichiro, Hideki Matsui, and Kaz Matsui. Knowing that Japan's pitching is weaker, all offensive statistics dropped after coming over here: BA 10-35 points, OBP 35-40 points, SLG 85-100 points.
Expect .290/.355/.465. He's a glorified LH/better defensive Matt Murton (.295/.365/.455), costing the club $11 per that could have been spent elsewhere.
This is insanity. I suppose paying for mediocrity is the new thing. Look at what SF just ponied up for .285/.345/.460.
