Open Discussion - the Mitchell Report

With word being that the Mitchell Report will be released within the next week-or-so, I thought I'd open it up to discussion here.  How much is this going to effect baseball in 2008?  Without naming names, how many current Cubs do you expect to see on the report?  One?  None?

Me, I'm going to guess that the total number could be as high as four, if only because Jim Hendry has the tendency to acquire pitchers with a history of arm problems, and a supposed method toward recovery from Tommy John Disease has been the use of HGH.

Additionally, some of our more talented players are residents of a different country.  It is conceivable that they have abused steroids, although if they did they would not be named in the Mitchell Report because they would not be buying their drugs from American doctors, not that I think Aramis or Alfonso are roid freaks.

It will be interesting to see what gets written.

re: Potential Cub outed?

Surprise: the coveted Oriole's second sacker, Roberts, being mentioned? He does have a history with these problems already in the record.

roids

Jason Marquis, Henry Blanco

My guess

If I had to pick one Cub that I think will be on the report it would have to be Mark Prior. I know the line drine and collision were legit injuries, but I still think all the problems in 04 and 05 and the mystery and secrecy surrounding the injuries is possibly steroid related. I have thought so for a long time. We'll see. I want the report to come out so the specualation can end. Wait that will never happen. I would rather just quit talking about it altogether.

My votes on former and current Cubs:

Jacque Jones; Angel Pagan; Kyle Farnsworth

My list of four

My list includes the following names: Dempster, Prior, Wood, Guzman. Four pitchers with long histories of arm problems, playing in a culture in which HGH is often prescribed to help rehabilitate from surgeries. As far as the hitters go, I wouldn't be shocked if some of our foreign players have helped their causes through chemical means, but they would have done it in their home countries and shouldn't be on any list that Mitchell comes up with. Let me just say, however, that even if a few Cubs actually appear on the list, I won't judge them negatively. It's just the way the game is played these days.

Cubs and roids? No Way!

...but here's who I throw out there anyway. Sosa - duh Luis Gonzalez - Diamondback years Farnsworth - or just a helluva grappler Barrett - turned out to be a moody little f*ck Rick Wilkins - how else you explain one monster year then oblivion? Todd Hundley - see Wilkins Moises Alou - if they tested for urine on hands Others: Howard Johnson - that one supernatural with the Mets Brady Anderson - including his 90210 sideburns
