Baker and Stone
I never really wrote about it, but I'm sure you've all seen the recent series of articles that initially speculated that Steve Stone would be interested in being the GM of the Cubs, before eventually confirming that, while Stone would like to have a decision-making role, he would prefer not to run the team full-time. Frankly, I still have hope that Stoney will find his way back into the booth again, but that seems unlikely to ever happen.
Regardless, Steve Stone's old adversary Dusty Baker is back in the news. The Cincinnati Reds have signed Dusty to a three-year deal to - snicker - to manage their team.
Taking a quick look at the Reds roster, it should be noted that they have way too many players under the age of 30, so this will likely be a tough job for Dusty.
I also have to admit that I'm feeling a lot of sorrow for our blogging colleague Red Hot Mama. I wonder if she knows what she's in for.
A quick check confirms that she does. In fact, in her next post - and podcast - she implies that Dusty's appearance in Cincy may be responsible for her taking a three year hiatus from the blogging world.
Mama, welcome to Dusty Baker Hell. I myself left there recently, but I'm sure my seat is still warm.

Hmm...
Dusty took the first offer he received. I'm wondering why he wants to manage again regardless of the position available. The Reds are not going anywhere. They have too many holes and a budget that won't let them buy solutions. Is he doing it for the money (which he does not need)? Is he is doing it to vindicate himself ? That's the only thing I find remotely interesting. I'm expecting him to receive harsh booing whenever he returns to Wrigley.
