Goatriders of the Apocalypse

Game One: Zambrano versus Webb

Just to get you geared up for the game (the game which is going to keep me up well past my bedtime), here are a few things to consider:

  • Brandon Webb's #1 pitch is a low fastball.  Coincidentally, that is pretty much the only pitch that Soriano can hit.  If Webb gets that sinker elevated - even just a little - it could go far.  Wow, I've got both an "if" and a "could" in at statement...nothing but hard hitting journalism on our end.
  • Carlos has been much better on the road than at home.  As it so happens, both of Carlos's starts will come on the road, a fact which makes me very happy.  I don't really like the idea of Carlos getting pumped up by the crowd and trying to throw 105 mph when we all know he can only throw 102.
  • It's all luck.  Anything that the experts throw out there?  Throw it out the window.  Not literally, of course, as the experts will only be offering ideas which are not tangible but, well, you know what I mean.  Anyway, whatever team has the hits falling in will win a 5 game series.  That's just the way the world works.  That being said, when your options to get hot are Soriano, Lee, and Ramirez, it gives you a bit more hope.  Still, if they hit into hard luck...well, we've still got DeRosa.
  • Orlando Hudson, possibly Arizona's best player, will not be playing in this series.  Cub fans may remember Hudson as the guy who kept getting all kinds of key hits against the Cubs when we played them last.  He won't be missed.  In his place is Augie Ojeda...he will be welcomed.

So, in summary, Go Cubs!

Game 4

"As it so happens, both of Carlos's starts will come on the road"

Game 4 would be at Wrigley.

oh yeah

I was thinking they had him coming back for game 5. Anyway, we won't need game 4, so it'll be all good.

At this rate, no, we won't.
