Have the Cubs given up?
That's what it seems like to me. It seems like they don't care.
It seems like Lou has given up. Why else would he bring a kid into a bases-loaded, nobody out situation for his first major league appearance? The kid did fine, but it was a very odd move. A move that smacked of surrender.
Are the Cubs more focused on booing to worry about a little thing like a division race? The Cubs hit into five double plays last night and showed very little interest in hitting.
I don't want to be all doom and gloom, but these games coupled with the backlash against the fans screams tailspin. Hopefully the Cubs can pull out the last two and make this post moot.
Oh, and for all those who missed it, Zambrano apologized. I don't think his teammates think he needed to, but he did anyway.
"The first thing I want to do is apologize to the Cubs fans," Zambrano said. "There were some moments [Monday] when I was angry. When human beings are angry, they say a lot of things they shouldn't say, and I am human. I made a mistake, and the thing about me is that when I make a mistake, I know I have to apologize and do the correct thing. "This comes from my heart. I love these fans. I love the Cubs fans. I think they're the greatest fans in baseball, and you know, they have the right to boo people or to do whatever they have to do because they've been waiting 99 years [for a World Series championship] and sometimes we don't do a good job and they get frustrated too.
Carlos loves you. Does everybody feel better now?

How Long Can A Guy Be Angry?
Okay, his gesture as he walked toward the dugout was one thing.
But the game ended about 2 1/2 hours later, and he still went off.
Until he pitches better, F this guy...and BOO!
Lou's given up?
Are you serious, mate? Come on, you've got to be kidding. I don't think Lou Piniella's ever given up in his entire life.
Relax Man
The reason the cubs seemed disinterested in hitting last night was because they ran into BRAD PENNY. Granted, the boys have some troubles hitting against Woody Williams too, but hey, Penny's no slouch--hell, he's an All Star. And I agree w/ Tonker. Lou's not giving up--ever. This season seems to be marked by low spells (See May) which are followed by high times. Perhaps with Carlos, the minimization of our lead, and the plague of double plays we are merely nearing the valley prior to our triumphant climb upwards onto another hot streak. It is called a "grind," you know. Plus, after the Dodgers, things look--on paper--to be getting better.
