It's official: Cubs are the awesome
I'm getting a little sick of these Cubs. When things are going well, it's sort of a battle to find new and exciting ways to exalt the Cubs. It's boring. And if I'm bored I'm sure you must be bored.
Are you bored? Don't be bored.
When the Cubs sucked (for, say, the last 99 years), it was easy. Throw in a few Neifi digs with a snarky Dusty bash, mix it around, and you have a blog post. But now?
Now, the Cubs are 1.5 games back. And what's more, the Cubs are even with Milwaukee in the loss column, putting destiny firmly in their adorable little cubbie paws. Did you feel that? A shiver just went up the collective spine of the land of beer and cheese.
While the Cubs are still a bit back, you have to figure that they have the advantage going into the stretch run. You see, the Brewers are really, really bad on the road. The Cubs, on the other hand, will not be playing any road games from here on out. For evidence of that, see game tape of the Cardinals and Reds game and listen to the "Go Cub" cheers drowning out the pathetic murmur raised by the "best fans in baseball" and whatever they call Reds fans (the "most unfortunate fans in baseball"?).
Today the Cubs are facing one of those matchups all Cub fans dread. It's the perfect ace versus a terrible pitcher and, on paper, the Cubs have already checked this one off in the win column. I hate when they do that. Of course, with Derrek Lee finding his power stroke and Soriano coming out of his slump, it may not matter how crappy this pitcher is. On the other hand, Belisle has been much worse of late than 5.28 era would suggest. What wins? Crappy pitcher or surging power?
It's the biggest mystery since that one time the Mystery Machine pulled up to the old carnival and the plucky kids started getting picked off one by one*.
Anyway, the Cubs need this one because the Brewers have Gallardo going for them and he's just about a sure thing right now.
Go Cubs.
(* It turns out it was Old Man McCreevey)

Good catch on the 'no more road games'
He would have gotten away
