Goatriders of the Apocalypse

Cubs news and notes

Just some random Cub thoughts for your enjoyment...

  • In a pathetic act of complete desperation, the St. Louis Cardinals have signed Todd Wellemeyer, of ex-Cubs fame, who was released by The Worst Organization in Baseball* after compiling a 10.34 ERA.  If it hasn't already been made clear, the Cardinals are royally screwed.  Hah.
  • The Cubs are in a conundrum at the moment.  Jacque Jones remains the only guy on the ML level who can adequately play in CF, but he remains offensively meh at best.  Jones presently has a .701 OPS and, while he's defensively adequate, he's not exactly setting the ivy on fire out there.  Meanwhile, Felix Pie is batting .446 in Iowa with 10 BB in just 65 at bats.  Not bad.  I think the Cubs need to think about dealing Jacque for just about anything, keeping Floyd on the bench, and starting Murton in left, Soriano in right - if he can feel comfortable there - and Pie in center.
  • Carlos Zambrano introduced a new delivery last night, but it was actually the power of his manly Venezuela curses that kept the Mets in check.  His sturdy 8-inning performance could very well be the beginning of some steady pitching for the Big Moose, which means the Cubs might be on the brink of a period of dominance.  Assuming that Mitch Hill stays away.

And that's all I've got for now.  Enjoy the game, as the Cubs battle back for .500 ... again.  I think they can do it.  Go Cubs!

*I'm talking about the Royals, of course.  Man, those guys suck.
