It Is Alive
or: How Does Kiko Calero Grab Ya?
A man who had an ERA under 2 and more than a strikeout per inning was not offered arbitration today by the Marlins, presumably because he was due for a big raise.
Since we are allegedly one of the Haves (as opposed to the Have Nots), don't we owe it to ourselves to pounce on this guy? He couldn't cost THAT much, and all of you who haybaled about spending money on John Grabow ought to get behind our spending money on a guy with superior stats?
...
Yeah, I know it's a bit lame...I gotta think of SOMETHING to put down here whilst we wait for the Muppet Show to leave town.
More Cubs 2009 in Review forthcoming.

Do it
I say go for it. I'm not real confident in the bullpen.
On a side note, if the Cubs asked Theriot to move to second base, what will happen to Jeff Baker and Mike Fontenot? I assume Starlin Castro won't be up for a bit next year, but I gotta think that means Mike will have to go.
2B
Fontenot might be facing a nontender even if Theriot stays at short. His 2009 was indefensibly bad. Baker is a bench bat now and I'm assuming that wouldn't change.
agree with Eddie 1000%
I can see Blanco starting the first portion of the season, and having them bring Castro up in May, especially if he starts off well in AAA. Then, when Castro comes up, Blanco is either sent down, traded, or released.
Theriot plays second, Baker backs up both 2nd and 3rd. Font gets non-tendered. Don't forget, Aaron Miles still has a 2 million dollar contract, there is no reason to keep both, and I can't see the Cubs eating the Miles contract, especially when they are going to have to eat more of Milton Bradley than they currently indicate.
AAAron Miles
I really wish the club would eat his contract and sent him packing. The money is a sunk cost, but the roster spot doesn't have to be. Blanco is a better player on both sides of the ball.
please understand
I am not advocating the retention of Aaron Miles, which is consistent with my not advocating the acquisition of Aaron Miles. And in the wide wide world of baseball, 2 million dollars is chump change. But I do not see "Cubs Management" eating both his deal AND the certain-to-be 6-to-10 million of Bradley's, too.
Agreed
Aaron Miles has to go. They should eat his contract, but it doesn't have to be a total waste. He just looks like a dad. Maybe he can hang out with Milton Bradley and solve some of those issues, or just drive players around. You know, dad stuff.
NVM
Never mind, problem solved.
