Goatriders of the Apocalypse

Gamecast: Cubs at Diamondbacks, July 7, 2010.

Ryan Dempster (6-7, 3.54 ERA) vs. Edwin Jackson (6-6, 4.74 ERA)

All aboard the Piano-back train, Aramis Ramirez looks like he has some sort of life.  Rammy went yard twice last night and not shockingly, the Cubs won a game.  I'm not saying this is a trend, nor a turning point... just an observation that it was nice to see him look like some semblence of his old self.  Also, the Cubs are in line to get their first sweep since April (ew... just, ew).

Looking at the man on the rubber for the DBacks, Jackson has been quite inconsistent this season and is not the pitching savior Arizone expected.  Much like his counterpart Scherzer that got traded to Detroit, Jackson has had control issues much of the season.  That being said, he's also had flashes of brilliance such as the "Dusty Baker Special" no-hitter where he threw his arm off.

I won't bore you with too much outside of this: Let's get this sweep.  Time to look like a respectable team for some part of this season.

Quantum Leap?

what is going on? suddenly i have turned into Scott Bakula and teleported back to a great time. Ive awakened to the great year of 2007 when Aramis Ramirez actually knew a bat was for swinging at good pitches and driving in runs. With the help of Rami the Cubs actually finished off a sweep of a week team. Maybe this dream will continue and our Cubs can pick up another series win against la before I wake up to the pathetic 2010 version of the Cubs. Or maybe there is sun breaking through the clouds and the Cubs are on the verge of actually coming to life and maybe our savior Aramis is back from the grave! truthfully it's prob to early for such optimism but what the hell! (is that considered a four letter word? sorry mr haley if it offends you) Let's enjoy this sweep and go for 4 in a row!

Unfortunately, the Cubs have dug such a hole for themselves that I don't think they will be able to claw their way back into playoff contention but I do think it's possible that they could make a run at .500. It's not much but it's what I hang my hat on about this team. They are 9 games under right now @ game 85. I always thought they'd make it back by game 100 but they have to go a massive hot streak to beat that. Maybe game 120.
