Billionaires will be Billionaires
Okay, I've been hoping that someone else would post about this so I didn't have to pull back the curtain and reveal my ignorance of all things business, but this needs to be mentioned and can wait no longer. A couple bazillionaires are looking to buy the Tribune owned Los Angelos Times and possibly the entire Tribune Corp.
This would, of course, include the Cubs were they able to buy the Trib. Here's a quote from the article:
Two billionaires that had separately expressed interest in buying the Times back instead mounted a surprise joint effort Wednesday to buy the entire Tribune Co.
The offer came from Eli Broad, a philanthropist who made his fortune in housing construction and investment services, and Ron Burkle, whose billions came from owning supermarket chains, according to a person familiar with the offer who was not authorized to publicly discuss it.
Well, if he's a philanthropist, maybe he's willing to take up the cause of the lowly Cub fan. There can't be much out there more pitiful than enduring almost 100 years of failure. I mean, what, world hunger? Come on, we've got the 2003 Cubs. Cry me a river.
My very limited understanding leads first to the thought that this could be a good move for the Cubs. The faceless Tribune Corp would get two new faces who would hopefully also have two huge egos and want to feed their egotisitical fire with a winner. Beyond that, I have no idea the implications of such a move.
That being said, we seem to be moving closer and closer the possible sale of the Cubs, so gather up your nickles and dimes and let's get ready to make a bid.
