Cubs dive into free agent market

Cubs have locked up one of the key cogs to last year's pennant push and solidified an uncertain infield situation. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you your 2006 starting infield: Derrek Lee Todd Walker Neifi Perez Aramis Ramirez (woooooooooooooo!) I have to admit, I was worried there for a bit. After all, both Walker and Perez were not guaranteed to come back. But thanks to the wheeling and dealing hand of Jimbo Hendry, we are all set. The worst thing Hendry could have done was break up the chemistry of a 2005 team that came so close to glory. Remember when Nomar went down? Without team MVP Neifi Perez stepping in, balls would have been scooting through the vacant shortstop position willy nilly. But Perez stepped up and got in front of all those balls and threw them to first. Yes, without Perez, I venture to say that the 2005 season would not have been the roller coaster thrill ride we all remember. Hats off, Mr. Hendry. I tip my cap to you.

Your absalutely right about this one..i dont think us northsiders could possibly have a better up the middle duo than good ol neifi and walker..world series here we come..

One thing I should point out: Neifi's greatest assett is defense. Our pitching staff would be affected by a defensive presence less than any other team due to the staff's strikeout tendencies. A bat would come far more in handy.

This is just....*implodes*

Why Mr. Hendry? Why?

Homer Simpson

Now THAT'S sarcasm.

I hate to use logic to get in the way of people bashing people they want to bash, but sometime I just gotta stir up trouble. Neifi is only being brought back to be a utility guy and a defensive replacement at SS and 2nd, which can't possibly hurt. Everyone knew he'd get found out as a not every day player last year when he had TO PLAY EVERY DAY. It is also widely known that Walker will get shipped out, and was only picked up because he's cheap and thus will be more attractive in the trade market. This is hardly your 2006 infield. Anyway, go back to your Hendry -bashing. You seem so bent to do so....

Sam, Neifi was a backup last year as well. Dusty managed to sneak him into more than 150 games. Neifi had more than half his at bats at the top of the batting order. You, I, and Jason may know that Neifi should be a backup next year, but Dusty Baker has taught us that we can't expect LOGIC to take hold with this team. Until next season is well under way, neither you nor I nor anyone will be able to truthfully declare that Neifi is a backup. We honestly won't know until then, and Dusty has given us lots of reason to doubt.

What Kurt said.
