Cubs have
locked up one of the key cogs to last year's pennant push and solidified an uncertain infield situation. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you your 2006 starting infield:
Derrek Lee
Todd Walker
Neifi Perez
Aramis Ramirez
(woooooooooooooo!)
I have to admit, I was worried there for a bit. After all, both Walker and Perez were not guaranteed to come back. But thanks to the wheeling and dealing hand of Jimbo Hendry, we are all set. The worst thing Hendry could have done was break up the chemistry of a 2005 team that came so close to glory.
Remember when Nomar went down? Without team MVP Neifi Perez stepping in, balls would have been scooting through the vacant shortstop position willy nilly. But Perez stepped up and got in front of all those balls and threw them to first. Yes, without Perez, I venture to say that the 2005 season would not have been the roller coaster thrill ride we all remember.
Hats off, Mr. Hendry. I tip my cap to you.
