When Old Men Attack!: Marty Brennaman

Sorry to distract from the upcoming series with the Bucs, but I'd like to take us back to our past series with the Reds for just a moment.

One of my friends recently made me aware of an audio clip where Reds' broadcaster Marty Brennaman (radio, I believe) let's his emotions get the best of him at the Friendly Confines (Wrigley tends to have that affect on people).

Let me take you through my list of original reactions to this audio clip.

First, I was angry. Who the hell is this guy? He thinks he knows Cubs fans? He thinks he knows what this fan base has been through? He comes into our house and judges our fans. I hope you burn in a firey hell where Harry Caray is singing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" endlessly and fans pelt you with baseballs from the bleachers for all eternity.

Then I felt apathetic. Yes, Cubs fans throwing dozen of baseballs onto the field is a little silly, but this guy is just being a crybaby about it. What do I care? I've been hearing anti-Cubs remarks my whole life. It's nothing new. Go back to Cincinnati and enjoy you're little "team".

Eventually, I felt pity. Marty was like every other Cubs-hater I had known my whole life. Instead of trying to understand Cubdom, he just stereotypes all of us based on the actions of a few drunk idiots. Instead of acting like a professional media memeber, he forces his bias upon the listeners in a most unprofessional way. It's really quite sily when a grown man doesn't even have the thinking capicity above that of a child. Poor Marty.

I'm sure everyone has their own stories about the Cubs-haters in their lives, but I say forget them. As easy as it is for them to judge us, we could do the same thing to them. Instead of lowering ourselves to their level though, I find it better to just laugh because I mentioned before, they will never understand.

Plus Marty has to watch the Reds all season long. That's already a purgatory in itself.

On a much more hilarious note, I went to Wikipedia to look up some information on old Marty only to find that his day of death was recorded as July, 8 2008...the next time the Reds come to Wrigley Field.

Marty

You think he's still bitter about Thom leaving WGN?

More than you know

At the same time on Fox Sports Cincy, Thom and his Dillbag of a broadcast partner were busy echoing Daddy's comments. They called the act of throwing back the ball "tired" and they were "sick" of it. Thom went on to say that Wrigley has be become a much uglier place to visit since '03. I go to Great American anytime the Cubs are in town, and the fans there are pretty vocal and derogatory towards us. Guess it's just frustrating to get your ass handed to you without lashing out.

Franchester?!?!

I never liked the son, now I can say the same about ol’ Franchester, too. Who the hell is he to judge all Cubs fans by the actions of a few?
And by saying that I am in no way criticizing those fans who threw the baseballs onto the field. Marty needs to loosen up and get the large male appendage out of his ass. (Thom, too, for that matter.)
