Time to lay off Howry
And this is as much directed at me as any of you. Yes, Bob Howry was god awful early on. And yes, he blew that one game where the Cubs came back and I'll never forgive him for that. And yes...actually, that's all I've got. But the time has come to face facts. He no longer sucks.
I'm not sure what happened, but somehow he managed to tag another 5 or 6 mph onto his fastball. Given that he pretty much only throws a fastball, this is pretty important. Along with the velocity has come results as evidenced by his 7 games in a row without allowing a run.
Hey, there's still Scott Eyre. Granted, he's gone from horrible to very bad, but there's still plenty of room there for derision.
With Howry, Carlos Marmol, and Michael Wuertz, we are doing pretty well from the right side. If Clay Rapada can pitch well as solidify the left side, the bullpen might finally be coming together.
Game today at 1:20: Very Well Rested Ted Lilly vs. "Fluffy" Wells.
Go Cubs.
